We are building a five man Cataphractii squad today! As you know with the release of the Age of Darkness box set, you get a ten man cataphractii squad. Along with that, I already have another five man cataphractii squad! With the release of the Age of Darkness, I went and purchased some Iliastus assault cannons along with some Vigil pattern storm shields. I hadn’t really figured out how I was going to use them but I knew I needed them.
Cataphractii squad loadout
In my 3,000-point army list post, the loadout is set, although since then, there has been a shuffle in the listing, which I will go over in a future post. I will use the cataphractii terminator squad when I try a Pride of the Legion right of war, or when I move up to a 4,000-point list! I am still mulling over running five as a command squad in a land raider, or running another five as a Huscarl squad! That will take some conversion, especially for the cloaks, I already own the shields and some old power axes.
You see I built the terminator to a basic level at this point. He is barely attached to the base at this point, as I still want to do the basing later!
You will notice that I haven’t attached both pairs of shoulder pads and the helmet at this point. In the end, I glued them all on – the majority of these terminators will be yellow, although I will paint the primary shoulder pads black.
Do note the top shoulder pads require manouevering into position, as they are somewhat fiddly!
You see that I decided to fit the squad with storm-bolters. The sergeant has a power sword and the rest have power fists for close combat. Obviously, we will be painting these all up in the future and hopefully the squad will have a name too!
Future squad loadouts?
I think the next squad will take an Iliastus assault cannon and prime them for drop pod insertion! Will that work? After that, I’ll be looking at Tartaros squad of some sort, and with sweep that will be a great thing!
