Well, Christmas is around the corner, so the Warhammer 40k Battleforces are around the corner! The Battleforce box sets have been going on for many years now. Have they always been released around Christmas? I seem to remember them being scattered all throughout the year.
Introduction
So, as per usual, it looks like we have six Warhammer 40k Battleforces, and four for the Age of Sigmar. I’ll write another blog on the four Age of Sigmar boxes soon!
- Space Marines (515)
- Orks (640) 690
- Astra Militarum (705)
- Leagues of Votann (750)
- Tyranids (860) 825,880
- World Eaters (915) 885, 915
The 2023 Warhammer 40k Battleforces
Space Marines Spearhead Battleforce
So here we have the latest Captain with jump pack miniature and three squads of jump pack assault intercessors. These are backed up with the slightly older outriders and an Invader ATV.
We can break the points down very roughly here. I have decided to put them into a Blood Angels army for this list. These are generic units, so you can put them in any Space Marines army with no points differences. For example, you COULD run them as stand-in Death Company with jump packs or Skyclaws in different chapters. Unfortunately, we don’t have Death Company Jump Intercessors yet. Maybe, if Lemartes crosses the Rubicon Primaris, the Death Company might get the tacticus keyword finally?

Let’s look at the individual price break down:
Captain with Jump Pack : £25 $40
Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs x 3 : £35 $60
Outrider squad : £37.50 $60
Invader ATV : £30 $50
That gives us a combined cost of : £197.50 or $330.
Beast Snagga Stampede
Moving onto the second lowest points amount, is the Beast Snagga Stampede Battleforce! Now, there are a couple of different build options here, but either of the options will wiggle it to a higher position in the list!
This Battleforce contains Mozrog Skragbad, three Squighog Boyz and a Nob on Smasha Squig. Last but not least is the Kill Rig, which can be built as the Hunta rig.
If you choose the Hunta Rig, the Wurrboy goes on foot, and you can also make the Beast Boss on Squigosaur. Depending on how you mix those units, you can get 640 points to 690 points in this kit. As I’ve already painted a Beast Boss on Squigosaur, I’d be building Mozrog!

Squighog boyz : £40 $65
Kill Rig : £85 $140
The combined cost of these is : £190 or $325.
Cadian Defence Force
We are here at the lower middle of the little list now. The points total is fixed for this Battleforce as there aren’t different unit builds or points for upgrades, etc.
If you purchase this, you will get a Cadian Command Squad, two squads of Cadian Shock Troops and two Rogal Dorn battle tanks!
As a top-tier competitive player, I would have thought that backing up a big blob of shock troopers with a command squad and the Rogal Dorns on either wing might be a plan. This is one of the Warhammer 40k Battleforces that almost had my attention! I already have one Rogal Dorn tank, are there any triple Rogal Dorn lists out there people are using?

Rogal Dorn Battle Tank x 2 : £60 $100
The combined total of these Astra Militarum kits is: £207.50 or $345.
Defenders of the Ancestors
Let’s look at one of Warhammer 40k’s newest factions, the Leagues of Votann. I bought the Leagues of Votann army set, as you may have seen in the EPIC UNBOXING I did. The same could be said for the Einhyr Hearthguard unboxing I did, too!
You will get the Einhyr champion and the Grimnyr to provide space magic. These are backed up by two squads of Einhyr Hearthguard, a Hekaton Land fortress and the Sagitaur.Â
This is Battleforce is a very tempting offer for me! There is some wiggle room with the points on this list as you can buy Enhancements for the two HQ units – depending on which ones, you can add up to 45 extra points.
++ Army Roster (Xenos – Leagues of Votann) [750pts] ++
+ Character +
Einhyr Champion [60pts
Grimnyr [65pts]
+ Infantry +

++ Total: [750pts] ++

Einhyr Champion : £25 $40
Grimnyr : £27.5 $45
Einhyr Hearthguard x 2 : £37.5 $60
Sagitaur : £40 $65
Hekaton Land Fortress : £70 $115
Here is a total cost of : £237.5, or $385
Onslaught Swarm
Ah, the mighty Tyranids get a Battleforce, too! Weirdly, I didn’t do an unboxing post on the blog, but I did do a some building posts here and there!
You will get the Swarmlord, which can also be built as a Winged Hive Tyrant or a regular Hive Tyrant. You’ll also get the Norn Emissary, or you could go with its alternate build, the Hive Assimilator! You get 10 of the new Genestealers and 20 Hormagaunts!
There is some wiggle room on points, but you’ll be getting between 820 and 880 points, depending on what you run with! Now, if you purchased The Leviathan box set, like I did, getting this Battleforce will take you to around 1500 points! Let’s look at a possible list.
++ Army Roster (Xenos – Tyranids) [860pts] ++

Hormagaunts x 2 : £30 $50
Total Tyranid cost : £200, or $330
Exalted of the Red Angel
Ah, the World Eaters have appeared with a saucy Battleforce. This is an issue, as I’ve been tempted to get some for a while – in fact, I almost went with the Combat Patrol recently! In fact, of the Warhammer 40k Battleforces, this is the one I am most keen on getting!!
The most recent daemon-Primarch appears, none other than Angron himself! He will be leading 6 (exalted) Eightbound and 10 berzerkers! That’s it!!
There is not much in the way of alternate builds within this Battleforce. There are two sets of Eightbound, which you built in their basic form, or the Exalted. This will give you 885, 900 or 915 points, depending on what you run with!
++ Army Roster (Chaos – World Eaters) [885pts] ++
+ Epic Hero +
Angron [415pts]
+ Battleline +

As I mentioned, I have come back and adjusted the box price! The original price was based on last year’s offerings. The box price has increased by £10, even bearing that in mind, they do represent a good purchase if you want everything! However, 30% to 40% savings are usual for Battleforces, which is why they sell out so quickly!
You can always save even MORE money, by ordering via my Element Games affiliate link, when the time comes!
Conclusion
From these Battleforces, I’m genuinely tempted by the World Eaters and probably the Leagues of Votann! Have any of these Warhammer 40k Battleforces taken your fancy so far?
I was hesitant to use the word “value” for these Battleforces, as value is usually a subjective thing to each person. These boxes definitely show a good saving for these armies. That really depends on if you NEED all of these miniatures in the box? For example, if you already have Angron,
you’d be looking at selling him. This might take a bit of time, but it would further increase the saving on the set, even if you were to sell him at half-price.
Also, the Age of Sigmar battleforces is now in a completely separate post right here!
