So, we need to discuss my custom chapter origins, or lack there of. You may have read in a previous post, I’ve been wanting to start a custom chapter for a while. The best move is getting one of the combat patrols that are available and work from there. The question is, which one to start off with? The best one to go with, is probably based off WHAT sort of custom chapter I go with!
I already have Ultramarines, Imperial Fists & Blood Angels (Death Company mostly). I used to collect Space Wolves, so we could find some wiggle room there. Saying that, something via Salamanders, Iron Hands or White Scars is also very tempting! This is going to be the first of many custom chapter posts, where we mull over various things. I like the idea of maybe them being reinforcements for The Executioners, Fafnir Rann’s chapter!
I like the idea of a bunch of greyshield primaris being shipped off to reinforce a depleted chapter & getting lost in the warp. A classic trope, but if it’s good enough for GW, it’s good enough for me. After crash landing and losing their astropaths, they have to scrounge up supplies from local system hostiles. Maybe they are starting to sound a bit sneaky & a bit like Raven Guard! If the transport ship is lost & crashed on this planet with their primaris cargo, I was thinking there wouldn’t be redemptors. Now, I have typed that, they were greyshields, so maybe a greyshield redemptor is with them!
Custom Chapter location
Before we start to flesh out things like names and founding chapter, shall we at least work on a location? There are many options, so let’s work on my custom chapters planet! I like the sounds of the area where the planet of False Hope exists. This is on the galactic map, South East of Terra, in an extremely unstable region. Temporal and spatial storms make mapping & navigating the region nigh on impossible. This makes things convenient for having a “lost” chapter trying their best to survive and make contact!
I have seen some recollections of it being a nebula and others saying it’s a death world. Having this as a name for a planet, I like – maybe it looks like the only inhabitable planet in the unstable system? Maybe the unstable warp winds nearby increase the powers of the Librarians they have with them? You can see on the map that there are a lot of warp storms in the vicinity, that could well be providing these power increases. You will find it in the Ultima Segmentum near Hell’s Breach.
False Hope
Now we have found a world to have our primaris reinforcements to occupy, let’s figure out how it looks & if there are nearby residents! Having done some research, it seems at times there have been battles between the Crimson Slaughter and some orks. It also seems like there is, or will be a Tyranid presence. Depending on the map used, it’s either a war world and death world, mostly of jungle terrain, maybe swamps too? I was considering a bike heavy army, but that doesn’t sound ideal on a planet covered in dense vegetation! If it is a jungle, then I want it to be a vibrant jungle, which could lead to interesting basing/ scenery choices.
The image is the forest of Felucia in the Star Wars universe – if I don’t use this now, I’ll absolutely use it for Star Wars Legion! l’ll clarify at this point that what is being put down, isn’t necessarily concrete. Something may come along during the process that will redirect things! However, our custom chapter origins need to be written down & organised, so that I can move the story onwards.
That’s all there is for this post! We have a planet to use as a base of operations and an area of space to work inside. The next post on this subject shall explore the surface and the surrounding planets more. In the future we will look at the lineage of our custom chapter, heroes and unit types!
