March for Macragge 2022

March for macragge

March for Macragge is upon us again, but this year I’m unable to do what I’d planned originally . Last year I painted up 55 fantastic Ultramarines from my old Apocalypse Battle Company set. To reiterate, I painted up five tactical squads, a dreadnought, and four company veterans during March. I mentioned I returned to the Ultramarines briefly in one of my first posts.

What I was planning on painting up this March was two squads of devastators, two squads of assault marines, one tactical squad and at least an Ultramarine captain, to finish up the company. Alongside those, I do have one old Forge World Veteran dreadnought, eight rhinos, one predator and one razorback! The vehicles I will work on this year, but I’ll try and get marines done once my housing situation changes.

However, I do plan on BUILDING some Ultramarines this March for Macragge, and maybe do a conversion? I have my plastic Marneus Calgar, Tiberius and Uriel Venris to build this month, after all.

Unfortunately, I am unable to post all of the Ultramarines as they are in storage, however I can post some!

March for macragge

This is not greatest image of them, but this is one of the tactical squads that I painted. The other four are, unsurprisingly, pretty similar! Looking back at these now, I can definitely see some bits and pieces that need more attention. I knew that this was going to be the case as I just couldn’t afford the time to be too picky. Saying that, I don’t think there are MASSES of errors to go over, but there some.

Ultramarines company champion medic

I also painted up an Ultramarines Company Champion along with a medic. Looking at the transfers and the gold trim now, I need to get some time and fix them up, as they look a little rough! To add some punch to the command squad, I took two company veterans with combat shields and plasma guns!

I painted this dreadnought and you can see a previous me thought I should do battle damage. Unfortunately, that doesn’t really mesh with what current me wants from them! It is however a fun miniature to paint up and I look forward to painting the Forge World one!

The basing is frankly needing some improvement. It is just Goblin Green with some grit glued on with some tufts and that sort of stuff. With the next 50 marines ahead of me, I wonder if I can work on improving the basing?

Advancing

So that wraps up March for Macragge 2023 but what of March for Macragge 2024??! Well, as I’ve said I am currently in between houses, so I am unable to paint. However, I will build a few Ultramarines, but which ones shall wait for another post!
