In the beginning, there was chaos...
Studio organisation
In this post, we are going to go over the final sort of, unpacking and studio organisation. I doubt we will fully get things as we want them, but we shall get most of the way there!
So, no doubt you’ll have already read the previous post where we went through the main re-fitting of the studio. If you didn’t, well, don’t worry, I will wait whilst you go and read it.
Are you all up to date? Good stuff!
Organising the chaos
Here we go! One of the very first things I did, was have some baby-pins on wall plates mounted to the wall and ceiling. These are for both when I stream over on Twitch and when I record videos for YouTube. I will be able to attach cameras, lights and such things and I hope that this will be a help.
The builders made the cupboards from chipboard and honestly, I would like to have put down something a bit fancier. However, for something that is rarely seen I put down some shelving liners. I hope that I won’t need this, but it should make things easier to clean in an emergency! I added the excess to the interior of the Alex shelves, as well! What I would like to do at some point, is get some wooden veneer, or similar and apply that to the leading edge of the shelves. This will make the shelves look slightly smarter.
Studio storage cuboards
Then I could start unboxing stuff I have not seen since December 2022! You’ll see below how much stuff there is, and I unfortunately know there is at least one more large box out there!
I managed to get all of the Warhammer 40k, Horus Heresy, Necromunda, The Old World and more tucked away, with a little bit more room for more stuff! I was somewhat surprised! The only thing I need to work on is what to do with the PAINTED miniatures, obviously more studio organisation will need to happen!
I managed to find almost all of my paints AND put them into the Alex drawers! What I would like to do, though, is print out some racks using my Bambu P1S that fits within the drawers to neaten things up a little. I think it is certainly possible, but whether or not I’ll get around to it, you shall have to see in future posts! However, I do think printing those out will be a major boon for the studio organising.
The ballad of the studio PC
I found my streaming PC, and I am currently mulling over the positioning of the two screens. The screens will start each side of the window, although I think it may well be a poor setup. I will say that the 24″ screens are verging on the small size and I am definitely thinking of an upgrade at some point. First of all, though, my streaming PC is definitely in need of replacing, as it is running hardware that is ancient.
Unfortunately, the stuff I would like to use with it just doesn’t work with it! It’s not great and not something I wanted to do quite yet, although I knew it would be something to resolve soon. Upgrading the streaming/ recording PC is now going to be the first major purchase for the company, probably with slightly larger monitors, as well.
We finally took delivery of the end window finally and we had the builders install it and then found out that the glass was NOT in the package! The window glass along with the secondary glazing will appear in the third week of September. This has cetainly been a large frustration as I’ve not felt entirely happy about unpacking everything with work yet still to do. Saying that, once they are in place I can finally have blinds installed which is going to help control incoming light.
Studio Worktop Layout
On the left desk, we have the BenchVent which is vented directly out of the room via an extraction point.
The central desk is where I will be mostly recording and streaming from, so that is where I will put the cutting mat etc. I am going to get a small amount of on-desk storage that will keep our currently used paints etc. I do NOT want to get into the situation again where I have tons of paint pots all across the desk. Will this hold up – or should I say, how long will it hold up?? I don’t think it will last too long, but I will endeavour to keep things as tidy as possible!!
The right-hand part of the desk is mainly the business side of things. This will include printing out labels, wrapping up items from my 3d printing shop and also product photography!
I did get my hands on a rug to cover the majority of the wooden floor, which is going to help a few of the sound issues. It’s not quite ideal, but there is only so much one can do. Furthermore, the majority of my YouTube voiceovers I will make in another room, so it’s not a major concern.
I do have this lovely refurbished potting shed table that I will eventually be using for finalising 3d printed orders. Next to this, I want to put a comfy chair that I can use to relax on when I am taking a break!
The End to the Organising... for now
I want to work on listing all of the currently boxed miniatures into a spreadsheet so that we can work on the pile of Future Content. I have put together a dodgy spreadsheet that is not ideal, but it IS a start, which is the main thing!
In conclusion, that wraps up the unpacking and studio organisation that we did. In the future, I will be upgrading parts of it, but it’s enough to get us up and running!
I will follow up this with posts on the 3d Printing Cupboard and a separate post on my current Streaming Setup sooner or later! So do consider subscribing to the Newsletter so you don’t miss out and so you get a discount on your first shop purchase!!
